Results for North Devon Performing Arts Festival – Dance Classes

The 29th North Devon Performing Arts Festival kicked off on the 28th of October with 4 exciting days of Dance Competition held at Kingsley School, Bideford. Again entries were drawn from the whole of the Southwest region with around 450 solo/duets and 50 groups - one competitor travelled from Dorset to do just one tap dance which fortunately she won! Adjudicator Jacqui Ison was impressed by the high standard of performances and local Dance Schools scooped many awards despite fierce competition from other areas. Charlotte Redman with her Classical Improvisation & Ashley Howells with her Tap shared the award for gaining the highest marks in a solo dance class as well as winning or being placed in all of their other classes. Other local dancers who won or were placed in their classes included Georgina Newton, Eve Warburton, Jade Bayliss, Haylie Hobbs, Sophie Andrews, Rosalie Garnett, Danielle Schofield, Erin China Sawyer, Ebony Brown, Danielle Gregory and Georgina Hare.

North Devon Performing Arts Festival Instrumental Results 2010

The regal Assembly Rooms in South Molton were the venue for this year’s instrumental section of the North Devon Performing Arts Festival. Although entries were slightly down on last year, our local performers provided a rich mix of musical experience ranging from pianists and harpist to woodwind, string, and brass players, guitarists, and composers. Cheltenham based adjudicator Ailsa Howarth gave comprehensive feedback to all and like other sections in the Festival the talent in North Devon was exceptional.

Vocal Results for North Devon Performing Arts Festival 2010

This year saw an increase in entries for the Vocal classes with several new singers of all ages taking part for the first time. There was a wide range of styles including classical, folk, musical theatre, lieder, opera and jazz with some outstanding performances by many singers making adjudicator Melanie Armitstead’s job difficult at times to single out a winner. She gave constructive criticism and feedback to all taking part and ended the 4 days of competition with a Workshop that focussed on vocal technique and communication of the song which all found invaluable.

The standard was high with many performers achieving marks in the distinction category. Overall awards went to the following people who will be presented with their trophies at the Gala Concert on 27th November at 3pm in Bideford College Theatre.

Young Musician Competition

This year 9 finalists competed for the title which was held in the Gallery at the Queen’s Theatre. Despite outstanding performances from all taking part, adjudicators Melanie Armitstead & Caroline Diffley were unanimous with their choice of first place which went to Ellie Hubble from Bideford playing Alto Saxophone. Second place went to Matthew Leung (Flute) and third place to Kirsty Chaplin (Harp & Piano). All 3 can be heard again at the Gala Concert on 27th November 3pm at Bideford College Theatre.

Speech & Drama Results
Adjudicator Jan Tuckett from Bristol was delighted with the variety and standard of poetry, prose and acting presented by our local performers this year and organisers were pleased that Ilfracombe Community College entered so many pupils for the first time.
