North Devon Performing Arts Festival Dance Results 2008 |
The most successful Dance section to date of the 27th North Devon Performing Arts Festival took place over 3 days at Edgehill College Theatre attracting over 1,000 entries from across Devon and Somerset. All age groups from very young dancers aged only 4 years old through to adults competed in a fantastic variety of solo, duet and group dances which included ballet, tap, modern, cabaret and contemporary pieces. Our local dance schools demonstrated their excellent teaching and talent of their pupils by winning many awards despite stiff competition from away. They included pupils from Neat Feet, Lindsay Ballet Studios, Sarah Anne Westcott, Dancing Feet and Barnstaple Dance Academy. The 2 adjudicators Pamela de Waal and Jayne Cooper judged the classes and chose the overall special awards which were presented at the Gala Concert on the 13th December held at Grenville College Theatre. |

Instrumental and Vocal Results 2008 |
This year the Music Classes attracted over 500 entries from around Devon for the 5 days of Instrumental and Vocal Classes held at Grenville College Theatre. International Adjudicators Andrew Hansford and Andrea Calladine both commented on the high standard of our local musicians with marks generally in the commended and distinction category. 3 young ladies also achieved the rarely awarded mark of 90 putting their performances into the outstanding category – 10 year old Zoe Bodinetz playing the piano, 17 year old Rosanna Yeo for her show song “Astonishing” and 17 year old Naomi Giddy for her rendition of Strauss’ Morgen. When making their overall awards, both adjudicators stated that they wished to recognise potential in performers rather than those who were already performing at a highly accomplished level. |
There was a lovely variety of musical styles including classical, jazz, folk and popular performed by children from many local schools. The highlight of the music classes was the 2nd North Devon Young Musician Competition (sponsored by Helpful Holidays) with the 1st prize of £200 being awarded to Naomi Giddy (voice) , 2nd prize to Christina Tang (piano), 3rd prize to Bethan Waters (voice) and 4th prize to Zoe Cartlidge (oboe). |
